55 West Monroe is a 803,000 SF, Class A office tower located in the heart of Chicago’s Central Loop. Designed by world-renowned architect Helmut Jahn, the building boasts an award winning elegant postmodern style exterior. The investment closed December 2011 and was sold in September 2014 to John Hancock Life Insurance Company. Within three years the occupancy soared from 68% to 92%. The overwhelming success of the business plan led to a shorter hold and a significantly higher return profile. Redevelopment included lobby and entry upgrades, monument signage installation, a new fitness center, common corridor upgrades, as well as an extensive rebranding marketing campaign.
